MAKE BELIEVE: Encounters with Misinformation | State Library Victoria
Make Believe explores misinformation from a human perspective, examining how people spread misinformation rather than blaming technology. Through four case studies inspired by SLV's collection as a springboard, the exhibition helps visitors understand their role in the misinformation ecosystem.

EXPERIENCE DESIGN
A different approach to the misinformation theme
The central onboarding space is designed to feel familiar yet reflective. Phone-oriented screens display content formatted like social media reels, showing people sharing thoughts on misinformation topics. These videos are occasionally interrupted by notification-style bubbles that present factual information. The space is enhanced by a soundscape blending electronic and computer-generated sounds with nature noises, and smooth, slowly shifting light that creates a contemplative atmosphere.
Custom seating echoes the architectural pillars of the room, while a strategically placed mirror creates the illusion of expanded space.
DESIGNING THE SOUNDSCAPE
SOUNDSCAPE DESIGN
The soundscape combines live synthesis from an Arturia Microfreak with field recordings and curated samples, all mixed and performed through Loopy Pro.
I aimed for an ambient, ASMR-quality blend of digital and natural sounds that supports contemplation without overwhelming the gallery's acoustic environment.
